In order to obtain a driver’s license, students must complete:
Independent Driving School’s Home Study Course and 50 Question Written Exam. Once a student has completed the home study course, the book is turned back into IDS and students take the accompanying written exam. Students can turn in the book at Independent Driver School’s office and take the exam there. Students who complete the home study course by their fourth driving lesson may turn in their book to the instructor and take the exam during their “observation time” in the car*.
Independent Driving School’s Four Driving Lessons. This will depend on the student’s schedule and available openings in Independent Driver School’s schedule. It is important that students attend all lessons in a timely manner. Lessons can be rescheduled but a $50 cancellation fee may apply if a lesson is canceled with less than 24 hours notice.
State-Regulated Driving Test. A student may elect to take the driving test at the Driver’s License Division office. The exam is free. However, there is usually a lengthy wait for openings for examiners there (up to eight weeks). Most students elect to have IDS arrange for a third-party examiner on their fourth driving lesson (if available). The third-party examiner charges $30 for that service.
State-Regulated Online Safety Exam. This can be done at any time. You must get 100% and you can take it multiple times. There are a couple of study guides you may have open while taking the exam (open book). The test is 40 questions. This link will take you to the exam site.
